Project overview

Use this section to frame the story quickly: the human problem, the product context, and the change your work made possible.

Challenge

New users understood the product’s value, but the setup flow asked for too many decisions before they felt oriented.

Audience

Busy first-time users who needed reassurance, context, and a clear path before committing time to setup.

Outcome

A calmer onboarding path that introduced choices progressively and made the first session feel achievable.

Research insights

What we learned

The onboarding problem wasn’t a lack of motivation. It was uncertainty. People wanted to start, but they needed the product to show what mattered now, what could wait, and why each step helped them move forward.

Users needed plain-language reassurance before each high-effort decision.

The path felt easier when choices were grouped into a visible journey.

Small moments of confirmation made users more willing to continue.

Process and solution

Design moves

The solution reframed onboarding as a guided first session instead of a setup checklist. Each step introduced only the information needed in the moment, paired with a clear reason and a small confirmation that helped users feel progress.

01 · Simplified the first decision into a guided starting point.

02 · Reordered setup around user confidence instead of system requirements.

03 · Added supportive confirmation states throughout the flow.

Prototype notes

Progressive setup

The flow reveals complexity only when it becomes useful.

Clear microcopy

Every step explains what is happening and why it matters.

Confidence cues

Soft confirmations help users feel oriented and in control.

Outcome and reflection

Close the case study by connecting the result back to the people it served. What changed in the experience, what did the team learn, and what would you explore next?
